Description	:	Longtime Conrad resident John H. Hanzelka, age 74, died January 14, 2012 at Iowa River Hospice, Marshalltown with his family by his side after a year-long battle with cancer. John was born in Chelsea, Iowa and lived there and in Belle Plaine until he moved to Conrad in 1958 to raise his family. John spent many years working for Green Products but for the majority of his working life, he owned and operated John’s Garage and then Hanzelka Truck Service. John’s passion was anything mechanical. John was born in Chelsea, Iowa and lived there and in Belle Plaine until he moved to Conrad in 1958 to raise his family. John spent many years working for Green Products but for the majority of his working life, he owned and operated John’s Garage and then Hanzelka Truck Service. John’s passion was anything mechanical. If you could drive it in the door, he could fix it. After he semi-retired, his big project was to restore a 1951 White Super Power Truck, which he then proudly drove in local parades. John volunteered with the Conrad Fire Department and was a big supporter of the community. John is survived by his wife Rose (Christian) of 55 years; their two children – son John (Barbara), of Superior, Colorado; daughter Julie Stahl (Jon), of Marshalltown; granddaughters Amber Hanzelka, of Aurora, Colorado and Haley Stahl, of Marshalltown; great-granddaughters Jhanna and Arianna; and brother David Hanzelka (Carolyn), of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Mary (Bazyn) Hanzelka, of Belle Plaine and his sister, Betty Musel, also of Belle Plaine. John lived his life with joy and never knew a stranger. He will be greatly missed.
