Krauth, 78 year old Cass county pioneer, died at his home south of here Saturday. Mr. Krauth was born December 3, 1857 at Iowa City and came to Cass county in a covered wagon when a boy of 12, before the town of Massena was founded. Just an hour after word was received of the death of his brother at Creston, John H. Krauth, 78 year old Cass county pioneer, died at his home south of here Saturday. Mr. Krauth was born December 3, 1857 at Iowa City and came to Cass county in a covered wagon when a boy of 12, before the town of Massena was founded. He had lived on the home farm for more than fifty years. Death resulted from cancer. Mr. Krauth was married in 1888 to Margaret Wycoff, who died in 1920. His wife of a second marriage died a year ago last April. Surviving are five children, Ralph Krauth of Corning, Mrs. Anna Bell of Tekamah, Nebraska, Mrs. Bertha Johannes of Creston, and Merl and Carl Krauth of Massena. A sister living in California and a brother, E. Krauth of Oklahoma, also survive. Another brother, Simon Krauth, 76, of Creston, former Cumberland farmer, died at 9:15 Saturday morning following a paralytic stroke. Funeral services for John Krauth were held at 2:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the German Evangelical church at Victoria Center with the Rev. Paul C. Ellis of the Massena Methodist church in charge. Burial was in the Victoria Center cemetery.
