With the passing of Mr. Meier Great Falls loses a pioneer, having come here with his family in 1890 from Minnesota. Mr. Meier was a native of Keil, Germany, where he was born May 24, 1842. When 26 years of age he came to America, settling at Henderson, Minnesota, where on Jan. 15, 1871, he married Kate Henslaw. They continued to reside in Minnesota until 1890, when they removed to this city and since that time Mr. Meier had been actively engaged in business, building and conducting the Minnesota house. To Mr. and Mrs. Meier seven children were born, two dying before they left Minnesota for this city and one dying here. Four children and the wife survive him, all residing in Great Falls. The children are: Mrs. Charles Horning, John Meier, Jr., Mrs. Thomas Barrett and Mrs. Fred Staats, and two sisters at the old home in Germany.
