Washington, a lifelong resident of the Pittsburg area, died at 3:52 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 1987, in the hospice unit at Mt. Carmel Medical Center. He had been ill four years. Mr. Wickware, born Dec. 6, 1898, in Chicopee to George and Harriett Bacon Wickware, attended Cherokee schools and also the Normal Training School, now Pittsburg State University. He taught in the Chicopee schools and also served as principal in Scammon. He later owned and operated the Coney Islands, 10th and Broadway and Euclid and Broadway; the Little Grill, Second and Broadway; and Ace's Truck Stop, North Highway 69. He also was a partner in the PlaMor Smoke House, 509 N. Broadway. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War I. He was an avid sportsman and trained hunting dogs. He was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Pittsburg masonic Lodge No. 187, Mirza Shrine and its Director's Staff, the Consistory at Fort Scott, the Benjamin A. Fuller Post of the American Legion and was also the past state Grand Chef De Gare of the 40-8. He married Margaret Yankoviz in 1939. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Douglas Wickware of Kansas City, Mo., Jack Wickware of San Francisco, Calif.; one daughter, Karen Carlton of Joplin; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother, Ray Wickware and one sister, Letha Wickware. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Richard McCandless of St. John's Episcopal Church of Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Cherokee cemetery with the Pittsburg American Legion conducting the flag-folding services. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brenner Chapel, 114 E. Fourth, with masonic services at 7:30 p.m. conducted by Pittsburg Lodge No. 187. ******************** I found an earlier marriage record for John H. Wickware to Zola Moody on 12 Nov 1934 at Jackson, Independence County, Missouri. She was 32. He was 35. In the 1940 census, she was living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working as a beauty operator. She was divorced. She died 18 Jan 1994 in Clarke County, Georgia.
