Description	:	One of the oldest and most respected citizens of Boone passed away Friday evening at 5:15 o'clock in the person of John Herron. Death came suddenly and peacefully while sitting in a chair in the parlor of his home at 422 Story Street. His daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Salinda and Miss Ethel Boyd were present when death came. Read More	One of the oldest and most respected citizens of Boone passed away Friday evening at 5:15 o'clock in the person of John Herron. Death came suddenly and peacefully while sitting in a chair in the parlor of his home at 422 Story Street. His daughter and granddaughter, Mrs. Salinda and Miss Ethel Boyd were present when death came. It was due to an attack of paralysis and the rupture of a blood vessel and the old gentleman was dead before anything could be done for him. Mr. Herron or Uncle John, as he was familiarly known, was born in Carroll county Ohio, March 24, 1825. In 1850 he was married to Miss Miranda Kollar, who survives him. In 1860 they removed to this county and two years later settled on the old homestead east of town, which was their home for many years. In 1862 he enlisted in Co D, 32 Iowa Infantry, and served through the war. After removing to the city some fifteen years ago he assumed the position of secretary of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance do., which he held until last January. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Herron five of whom are living. They are, Thomas, a Northwestern engineer residing here, James of O'Brien county; Isaac of Glensberry Idaho: Mrs. Salinda Boyd of this city and Mrs. Margaret A. Smith of Peterson, Iowa. The deceased is Miss Ruth. Mrs. E.O. Montgomery of this city is a niece. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the residence. Rev W.Y. Brown of the Presbyterian Church conducted the services. The G.A.R. were in attendance in a body at the funeral. Interment was in Linwood. Mr. Herron was a kindly old gentleman who was known in the length and the breadth of the county. His death is a matter of much regret and the grief stricken family have the sympathy of all.
