The funeral of John Hoffmann, who died in Le Mars on Monday , was held at St. Joseph's church in Le Mars on Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock and was one of the most largely attended funerals lately held la Le Mars, for during his long residence here he has made a large number of acquaintances and was highly esteemed by all. He was born in the village of Holrich, Luxembourg , Europe, in , January, 1825, and came to the United States in 1854, locating at Galena, Ill., in May of that year. He was twice married, being married to Miss Mary Schmidt in Luxembourg who died there after three years. After residing there a short time he went to Jackson County where he resided on a farm for nearly 20 years He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Miller in Jackson County, on November 7, 1857, and she has shared in all of his happiness and sorrows during all these years three daughters were born to this marriage and they with the aged wife survive him. The daughters are Mrs. Peter Teutinger and Mrs. John Marx of this city and Mrs. Peter Marx of Marion Township. He also leaves three brothers. U. D. and Nicholson Hoffman of Le Mars and Dominic Hoffman of Dubuque. He came to Plymouth County in 1874 and settled on a farm which he tilled with care and energy for a number of years and where he accumulated goodly portion to support himself and his loving helpmate In their declining years when he retired and moved to Le Mars to make his home. The funeral was attended by a large number of the old settlers from different parts of the county. Theo Goldsmith, Ellwood, Iowa, Jas. Teutinger , Dubuque, Mrs. Chas. Wagner, Nic Kass and Mr. and Mrs. John Galles, Herman; Anion Guebel, Theo Arends, Mrs. John Heman , Alton and Mrs. Peter Urich, Granville, were among the relatives who came here to attend the funeral. The pall bearers were Magnus Sauer, Mat Fisch, Frank Ernsterhofer, Henry Kamp, John Trauiller and John Hentges. Le Mars Globe Post Saturday, March 23, 1904 Le Mars, Iowa
