Description	:	Funeral services for John Hoops, who passed away at the home of his son, Roy, Saturday night, January 24, following a two weeks’ illness with pneumonia and complications, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran church, Groton, of which he was a member. The Rev. J. E. Schwarting officiated. Burial was in the Groton Union cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Fred Hoops, Ralph Hoops, Clifford Hoops, Maurice Nehls, Howard Nehls and Robert Erdmann. The Rev. J. E. Schwarting officiated. Burial was in the Groton Union cemetery. Pallbearers were six grandsons, Fred Hoops, Ralph Hoops, Clifford Hoops, Maurice Nehls, Howard Nehls and Robert Erdmann. John Hoops was born at Burge, Germany on May 19, 1860. In the spring of 1881, at the age of 21, he came to the United States and settled at Alma, Wis., where he was united in marriage with Mary Kaufman on January 31, 1889, and the happy couple came to the Groton vicinity on March 15th of the same year. Mr. Hoops was a pioneer farmer in Hanson township, where the family resided for many years. Upon retirement Mr. and Mrs. Hoops moved to Groton to establish their home, where Mr. Hoops resided until several months ago when he went to make his home with his son, Roy and family. To this union eleven children were born, all of whom survive, namely: Mrs. Anna Funk, William Hoops, Mrs. Dora Nehls, Mrs. Louise Radke and Alvin Hoops of Groton; Joseph Hoops of Verdon; John Hoops, Otto Hoops and Roy C. Hoops of Ferney; Mrs. Frieda Erdmann of Andover, and Mrs. Edna Dickinson of Aberdeen. Thirty-three grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Hoops preceded her husband in death eight years ago. Mr. Hoops was a true and loving husband and father, a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor. His honesty and stability of character won the admiration of all who knew him, and his passing will be keenly felt by his innumerable friends. Among those from a distance who were here to attend the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Klabunde of Bismarck, N. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Willord Kaufmann of buffalo City, Wis.
