South St will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home He died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday in White County Memorial Hospital. Born July 11, 1922, in Reynolds, he was the son of Russell and Carrie B. Davis Bird. He was married Dec. 23, 1944 to Charlotte K "Shirley" Charais, who died April 18,1984. He was married May 15 1989, in Lafayette, to Sherry McCoskey, who survives. He had lived in the Monticello community all of his life. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II on a PT boat in the Pacific theater. He was a machinist and a mechanic most of his life, and had operated a Shell Service Station in Monticello for several years. He retired in May 1989 from Phillips Circuit Assemblies of Lafayette. He was a member of the American Legion and IOOF Lodge both in Monticello. Also surviving are one son, Jeffrey C. Bird, Monticello; three daughters Micki Chadd, Lafayette, Jackie Hicks, Reynolds, Linda Begley, Monticello; one stepson, Michael Scott McCoskey, Grand Rapids, Mich., one sister, Elsie Mae Houston, Lakeland, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One brother preceded in death. The Rev. Thomas Bennett will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, where IOOF Lodge rites will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
