A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at the United Methodist Church in Hansell, Iowa. John was born on June 14, 1924, on a farm north of Popejoy, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 15, at the United Methodist Church in Hansell, Iowa. John was born on June 14, 1924, on a farm north of Popejoy, Iowa. He was the son of John and Mabel (Armstrong) Beer. He attended schools in Popejoy, and graduated from high school in Hansell. Upon graduation, he attended college at Iowa State University in Ames, until he enlisted in the United States Army where he served his country during World War II. On Dec. 6, 1952, he married in Hampton. After his military discharge, he resided and farmed on the family farm in Hampton until 1981. He then worked at A. Swine buy station and he was a custodian for the Franklin County Fair for many years. His vacations were spent working at the Iowa State Fair campgrounds. He managed the Trails End Mobile Home Park in Weslaco, Texas, and at the time of his death, he was a manager of the Iowa State Fair campgrounds. He and his wife were winter Texans and had been spending their winters in Texas for the last 24 years. He had been a 4-H leader and a member of the United Methodist Church. He was also an avid wood craftsman. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mabel(Armstrong) Beer and his grandparents William Levor Beer and Annie (Hanson) Beer and Merle D. Armstrong and Ida Jane (Woodley) Armstrong. His sister Ruth (Beer) Klousia survived him but died January 2009.
