Kalinsky, the rural Eureka man who shot and killed his wife near Bottineau, N. D., the other day, passed through Aberdeen on his way to the scene of the tragedy and called upon Presiding Elder Akers and the other acquaintances. The murder was a great shock to all the acquaintances of the principal and to all his family connections, as, according to Mr. Akers' statement of the matters. Mr Kalinsky was a very mild mannered and sweet tempered old man. not capable of apparently premeditating and carrying out the smallest crime. His wife was considerable younger than he and had caused much trouble in the family for years past, leaving and absenting herself from the circle without justifiable cause at different times and treating her husband in a harsh and contemptible manner. She went to Bottineau something like a year ago, ostensibly to visit another son in law, Henry Boehnke, but remained with him but a short period, preferring to take menial service in other families as she could find it. Kalinsky recently went to North Dakota to persuade her to come home and and live with him. He was unsuccessful and was about to return home when, without excitement and in a matter of fact way he excused himself for a moment, went again to where his wife was stopping, drew a revolver which he had concealed upon his person and shot her five different times. inflicting several mortal wounds. He evaded arrest for a time, but was finally caught near Bismarck. Those who knew the old man take the charitable view that his mind was unhinged from the brooding over his troubles and he as not a responsible agent when he committed the fearful crime. D., and was sentenced to imprisonment in the penitentiary at Bismarck at hard labor for life.
