The program starts at 2 p.m. and is open to the public. The cemetery is located near Fairfield High School, at the corner of Fairfield Road and SR 771. "It's a Veterans Day ceremony and it ties in to local history going very far back. We decided we wanted to remember the efforts of some of our older veterans who are buried there," said John Fitzgerald, pastor of the Leesburg Friends Church who has helped organize the ceremony. The seven stones being rededicated mark the resting sites of: • Beverly Milner (1755-1843), Revolutionary War veteran, defender of forts of the Virginia frontier. • Joseph Adams (1759-1839), Revolutionary War militia service, Frederick County, Va., disowned Quaker, later reinstated. • Daniel V. Smith, age 20 (1844-1865), Civil War service, died at Camp Chase, Ohio, 186th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. • John J. Burton, age 29 (1834-1863), Civil War service in Company E, 50th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. • James M. Coulter, age 16 (1846-1862), Civil War service in Company F, 50th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. • W.P. Redman, Civil War, Company H, 27th Regiment, U.S. Colored Troops (African or native American). • Joseph Henley, age 22, 1841-1862, Civil War, Sergeant, Company E, 56th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, died at Atlanta, Ga. According to Fitzgerald, the Waw-wil-a-way Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution has identified two other Revolutionary War veterans who are probably buried in the Fairfield Friends Cemetery. While no stone or church records of them has been found, their names are Ashley Johnson and Rueben Searl. The program and the survival of the cemetery, established in 1804, would not be possible without the help of Bob Fetters, according to Fitzgerald. He said Fetters grew up in the Leesburg area and still has relatives in the area, but moved several years ago to Chillicothe where he became a supervisor at the Mead Corporation. Fitzgerald said Fetters, who is now retired, became interested in genealogy, restored several graves at the Fairfield Friends Cemetery, and has wrote a book about the cemetery and the people buried there. The book will be on sale on at Sunday's program. The program will include a processional to Milner's gravesite, the normal Veterans Day pledges and music, a story of the Fairfield Friends Cemetery, placing of flags at the veterans' gravesites, and a talk about the new veterans' memorial in Leesburg. Much of the program has already been scripted. One of those speaking will be Pat Young, a member of the Southern Ohio Genealogical Society and the DAR. The script says she will say these words about the purpose of the ceremony: "We gather here today to rededicate these graves and new flag holders for Beverly Miler and Joseph Adams, Revolutionary War patriots, and for the graves of five Civil War soldiers. "We do this marking so that people who pass this way may be reminded to take pride in the heritage of their family and country, for understanding the history of our great land, and as a reminder of the continuous need for vigilance in protecting our freedoms. "Let us remember that 237 years ago this year, the Declaration of Independence was made, during the time of the American Revolution. That time and afterwards was the era of the birth of a new nation, when men and women lived, struggled, suffered and died so that we might proclaim liberty and freedom throughout our land. The Civil War was a particularly horrible period of bloodshed, but by sacrifices of men and women of the ages, they established and re-established the United States of America, and a nation of free men and women."
