The Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member for many years, will attend the funeral. ----------------------------------- Another obituary for John Ingleright was published in the "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper, in Berrien Springs, Michigan on March 13, 1878, page 3. It reads: ------- John Ingleright of Scotch Town [Scotch town cave was later known as "Bear Cave"], Buchanan Township, who had been a resident of that place nearly fourty years, died on the 26th [should say 27th] of February [1878], aged 75 years. He was a respected citizen and a Mason. It is said that when at Buchanan one time during the war, he learned it was President Lincoln's intention to free the slaves. Mr. Ingleright became indignant at the idea and said he wished the Almighty would never let him see the time when the Negroes would be free. As Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation, Mr. Ingleright's sight began to grow din and in about thirty minutes he was stone blind and remained so from that day till his death. From the first he has believed that his blindness was the work of the Lord, in accordance with his paculiar wish. ------------------------------------- Note the two differant "dates of death" [Feb. 26th and 27th] given in the two obituaries. -------------------------------------- Note: Bear Cave, North of Buchanan, MI was origionally called Scotchtown Cave. ------------------------------------- John was married to Lydia Marie Opdycke on Nov. 6, 1825 in Mercer County Ohio. (Some records say June 6, 1825). Lydia is the daughter of Peter Updycke and his wife Hanna Luce. --------------------------------------- Note: John is buried in Section 2, lot 15, next to his wife Lydia. --------------------------------- John and Lydia Ingleright's children listed in the 1850 census are: David, William, Martha J. (Margaret Jane), Sarah A., Martha E., Ruhama, George W. and Albert E. Ingleright. -------------------------------------- The children of John J. Ingleright and his wife Lydia Maria Opdycke are: -------------- 1. Andrew W. Ingleright, born "about" 1826, in Ohio. m. Mrs. Mary Ann (Mitchell) Kaber, on Dec. 25, 1848, in Berrien Co. MI. Mary Ann is the daughter off David and Susanna Mitchell. d. Oct. 11, 1888 in Berrien Co. MI age 63. The obituary for Andrew was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper, in Buchanan, Michigan on Oct. 25, 1888, page 2. Buried: Oak Grove Cemetery, with Mary Ann. (Listed as "A. W." Ingleright). (In Lot 95, Space 4, and Mary Ann in space 1). ---------------------------- 2. David O. Ingleright, b. 1829, in Mercer Co. Ohio. m. Henrietta Nelson (or Wilson), on May 6, 1855, in Niles, Berrien Co. MI. (later divorced, per: 1880 census). d. Oct. 4, 1880, in Ensley township, Newaygo County Michigan. Buried: Crandall Cemetery, in Newaygo County Michigan. ------------------------------ 3. Hannah MARIAM Ingleright. Born April 10, 1831 in Niles, MI. Married John B. Mitchell, on Nov. 25, 1849 in Berrien Co. MI. They had 14 children, four of them dying in infancy. d. Feb. 18, 1906, in Buchanan township. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan (Section 2, Lot 4), as "Hannah M. Mitchell". Obit in "Buchanan Record" on Friday, March 2, 1906, page 1. ---------------------------- 4. William Ingleright. Born March 17, 1833, in Niles, MI. He married # 1. Sylvia Ann Fuller, on April 2, 1855 in Niles, Berrien County Michigan. They had: Two sons and three daughters, (including Authur and Maria Ingleright). Sylvia died on July 8, 1900. William served in the Civil War, for 3 years, in Co. K, 25th MI Infantry. m. # 2. William, age 68, married Mrs. Fredricka (Conradt/Conrad) Carpenter, age 64, on Dec. 8, 1901. William died Sept. 13, 1904. Buried: Sherwood Cemetery, Berrien County Michigan. Obit in "Buchanan Record" on Friday, Sept. 13, 1904, page 3. ------------------------------- 5. Margaret Jane Ingleright. b. 1835, in Michigan. (Listed as Martha J. in some census). m. William R. Stevens [Sr.], on Oct. 27, 1855 in Buchanan, Michigan, by John W. Lister, Justice of the Peace. (Russell McCoy and Susanna Lister were the wittiness'). They had seven children. d. May 25, 1894 near Hills Corners, Weesaw Township, Berrien Co. MI., at the age of 59 years and 9 months. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section 5, Lot 1). Obit in "Berrien Springs Era" newspaper, on Wed. May 30, 1894, page 3. -------------------------------- 6. Mary Catherine Ingleright. b. 1835, in Michigan. m. Levi Woodbury Spaulding, on Sept. 24, 1857. (10 children). d. Jan. 24, 1897. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery, Buchanan, Berrien Co. MI. [Cemetery records list her as "Mary C. Spaulding INGLERIGHT" in Section 1, Lot 16, next to her husband Levi W. Spaulding, and seven others of the Spaulding family]. The obituary for "Mrs. Catherine Spaulding", was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper, in Buchanan, Michigan, on Jan. 28, 1897, page 3. The obituary for her husband, "Levi Woodbury Spaulding", was published in the "Buchanan Record" on May 19, 1898, page 1. -------------------------------- 7. Sarah Ann Ingleright. b. Aug. 7, 1837, in Berrien Co. MI. m. # 1. Sylvanus Siddall, on Oct. 6, 1858, in Berrien Co. MI. (3 dhildren). m. # 2. Minard Husted, on July 16, 1912, in Manton, Wexford County Michigan. d. March 26, 1916, in Manton, Wexford County Michigan. Age 78 years, 7 months, and 19 days. Buried: West Branch Cemetery, Missaukee County Michigan. -------------------------------- 8. Martha Elizabeth Ingleright. b. April 5, 1841, in Berrien Co. MI. m. Henry Bradley, on March 2, 1859, in Berrien Co. MI. d. Oct. 30, 1915. "Possibly" had son named Ralph Ingleright who was born on May 15, 1882, in Lakeside, Muskegon County Michigan.
