He was born on August 7, 1931 in West Point, IA to Bernard & Catherine Burwinkel Schier. He married Floradean M. Mason on June 30, 1956 in Fort Madison, IA. He was a fireman for the Fort Madison Fire Department for 25 years, the last 9 years he was firechief. Mary & Joseph Church, Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as past president and financial secretary for several years. He was also past president of the Iowa Firefighters Association, served on the Lee County Veterans Board and volunteered at the Sheaffer Museum, as well as many other community organizations. He was preceded in death by: his parents, a brother & two sisters.
