Serfoss, 79, of 1201 S. 12th Ave., who died at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines Tuesday, will be from the chapel of Estel-Perrin Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Louis Stoker in charge. Committal services at the funeral home will be by Marshall Lodge No. 108, AF & AM and burial will be in the Eden Cemetery at Rhodes. Born Oct. 18, 1890, at Waverly, be was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Serfoss. He received his education in Waverly. During World War I, he served in the Army with the 315th Engineers of the 360th Infantry April 27, 1917, to June 26, 1919, with overseas service in France. On Oct. 29, 1932, at Omaha, Neb., he was married to Zelma Phillips and they had always made their home in Marshalltown. Mr. Serfoss was a longtime employee of the Chicago Great Western Railroad and was also engaged in the roofing business. Preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Serfoss was a member of Marshall Lodge No. 108, a former member of Signet Chapter No. 38, RAM, King Solomon Council No 20 R & SM, St. Aldemar Commandery No. 30, KT, a lifetime member of the Shriners Hospital Foundation for Crippled Children, World War Barracks No. 1104, VFW No. 839, and Frank Lewis Glick Post No. 46, American Legion. Surviving are the widow and three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Phyllis) Groff of Fort Collins, Colo.: Mrs. Kenneth (Patricia) Long, Marshalltown, and Mrs. Clair (Kay) Schoppe, State Center. Also surviving are six grandchildren, and a sister and a brother, Mrs. Nellie Schultz of Watertown, S. D., and Clarence Serfoss, Fort Collins, Colo. from Marshalltown IA newspaper Times Republican dated Thursday October 8 1970
