Oct. 8, 1942 P. 1 JOHN TROYER, SR. KILLED INSTANTLY WHEN HIT BY TRUCK John Troyer sr. was killed instantly Thursday October first in the yard at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Hostetler, near Smithville, Ohio. Mr. Troyer was standing behind a truck when the driver suddenly backed up to get out of the way of another truck coming into the yard. Mr. Troyer had been a successful farmer in Milford community during the greater part of his life. He was well and favorably known and took an active part in the affairs of the church. Funeral services were held at the Hostetler home Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and at the Oak Grove church at 10 a.m. The body was brought to Milford and services were held at the East Fairview Church with burial at the church cemetery. Rev. Wm. R. Eicher and Rev. Peter Kennel of Shickley had charge of the services here. Members of his family who came from a distance to attend the services in Milford were Abner Troyer of Smithville, Ohio, Perry Troyer of Waterford, Pa., Clayton Troyer of Union City, Pa., Vernon Troyer of Barberton, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Troyer of Welllman Iowa, Kenneth and Doris Burkey and Mrs. Lucinda Backman of Morton, Ill. and Moneda and Luetta Troyer of Hesston, Kansas. OBITUARY John Troyer, son of Jonathon and Magdalene Gingerich Troyer, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, October 4, 1863. Death came very suddenly as the result of being run over by a truck at the home of his son-in-law, George Hostetler, near Smithville, Ohio on October 1, 1842 aged 78 years 11 months and 27 days. He was united in marriage to Lucinda Stutzman on October 21, 1888. To this union was born 8 sons and 5 daughters. His dear life companion preceded him in death eight years ago. Also one daughter Elma (Mrs. J. C. Burkey) and eight grandchildren. He is survived by the following children: Melvin, John R., and Mattie (Mrs. Joe Birkey) of near Milford, Nebraska, Lloyd of Wellman, Iowa, Perry of Waterford, Pa., Clayton and Mary (Mrs. Aden Klopfenstein) of Union City, Pa. Dan of Spartansburg, Pa. Lucinda (Mrs Alton Miller) of Corry, Pa. Vernon of Barberton, Ohio, Abner and Velma ( Mrs. George Hostetler) of Smithville, Ohio. He also leaves 61 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Jacob of Napponee, Indiana, Abe and Dan Troyer of Shickley, Nebr., 2 sisters, Mattie Schweitzer of Shickley and Fanny Schweitzer of Iowa City, Iowa and many other relatives and friends. Brother Troyer confessed and accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth. He united with the East Fairview Mennonite church and when he came to Ohio he transferred his membership to the Oak Grove Congregation. He was a faithful and devoted Christian. Father was always deeply interested in the work and activities of the church. He was also interested in his own family and had the joy of seeing all his children accept Christ and unite with the church of this choice.
