Description	:	Obituary: York Democrat, July 8, 1909: Mr. John Walsh died Saturday, July 3rd, at about 12:00 o'clock at his home on Grant Avenue. He had been ill for several months but was not compelled to take to his bed until a week before his death occurred. Mr. Walsh served three years in the Civil War and was a member of the K Co., 64th Illinois Volunteers. He contracted an ailment while in the war from which he has suffered very much. Read More	Obituary: York Democrat, July 8, 1909: Mr. John Walsh died Saturday, July 3rd, at about 12:00 o'clock at his home on Grant Avenue. He had been ill for several months but was not compelled to take to his bed until a week before his death occurred. Mr. Walsh served three years in the Civil War and was a member of the K Co., 64th Illinois Volunteers. He contracted an ailment while in the war from which he has suffered very much. He was 63 years of age. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois in 1846. In 1878 he came west and in 1886 he settled in York and has since lived here. In 1887 he married Miss Mary Meehan. To them were born three children, George, Willie, and Marie, all of whom are at home. Beside his wife and children he leaves a brother and sister living in Chicago and a brother in Topeka, Kansas to mourn his death {should be sister in Topeka}. He was a member of Woodmen and Workers orders. Mr. Walsh was a man of quiet disposition and during many years which he served as custodian of the county jail he was always on duty and no complaint was ever heard against him. The funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:00 o'clock at St Joseph's Church, thence to St. Joseph's Cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest. Rev. Father Cullen conducted the services.
