Description	:	John was born in Bohemia in the Czech Republic, one of eight children born to John Wyborny and Anna Ruzicka. The family name was originally Vyborny. Various spellings include Wyborny and Wyborney. In 1851 his parents left Bohemia, crossing the Atlantic on a sailing ship to New York. At the time there were five sons: (Joseph, John, Henry, Charles, and Frank) and one daughter (Karel). From New York the family went to Watertown, Wisconsin where Frank's father bought a small farm. At the time there were five sons: (Joseph, John, Henry, Charles, and Frank) and one daughter (Karel). From New York the family went to Watertown, Wisconsin where Frank's father bought a small farm. Two more sons were born (Bradek and Milton). In 1854 Frank's sister died. The family now had seven sons. The family moved to Mitchell County, Iowa, in 1859. When the Civil War broke out, four of the brothers enlisted: Joseph, John, Henry and Charles. Frank enlisted but was immediately discharged because he was under age. John and Charles both enlisted in Co H 4th Iowa Cavalry. Charles died from typhoid fever at Vicksburg in 1864. In 1862 young Milton became ill and died. After his discharge, John returned to Iowa and married Mary Heiny on 30 Nov 1865. They had six children: Yarrow, Jennie, Ivan, Elfa, Ida, and Mary Ann. John was a farmer, and their first farm was west of Plymouth, Iowa. In 1871 they moved to a farm 3 miles north of Plymouth. John died there in 1880 at the young age of 39 years. He was buried with his parents and brother Milton in Mitchell County. Mary was left to raise six children between the ages of 3 and 11. In 1884 Mary Ann, the youngest, died at the age of 7 years. Mary raised the remaining five children on their farm north of Plymouth. She lived her declining years in North Dakota with son Yarrow and died in North Dakota at the age of 87 years. Civil War Records: John was a resident of Mitchell County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private on 30 Dec 1863 at the age of 22 years. In a battle near Tupelo, Mississippi, July 1864, he was thrown from a horse and dragged some distance. He sustained injuries bur returned to duty with his unit and was discharged 8 Aug 1865 at Atlanta, Georgia.
