He was born July 8, 1916, in Wayne County, N.C., a son of the late John Jeffery Cox and Bythie Lambert Cox Lambert. He worked as an evaporator operator with International Paper Co. He retired in 1978 after 42 years. He was a member of Winyah Masonic Lodge No. 40 in Georgetown. He served in the former Civil Conservation Corps and enjoyed coon hunting and fishing. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church and a former member of Graves Southern Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and member of the grounds committee.
