Moffett, pastor of McDowell Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. J.B. Hedrick, pastor of Bath charge, (Methodist). Mr. Charles Loving of Hot Springs had charge of burial arrangements. Lockridge born May 9, 1862, died Feb 7, 1931; age 68 years, 8 mos., 28 days. His remains were gently and tenderly laid to rest in Clover Creek cemetery on Monday, Feb. 9, after an impressive funeral ceremony conducted in Clover Creek church by Rev L.M. Moffett, pastor of McDowell Presbyterian church assisted by Rev. J.B. Hedrick, pastor of Bath charge, (Methodist). Mr. Charles Loving of Hot Springs had charge of burial arrangements. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Notwithstanding the rain and mud the large concourse of people assembled attested to the esteem in which Mr Lockridge was held. In the summer of 1889 he married Miss Frances Colaw, who with five stalwart sons and a foster daughter and 11 grandchildren survive. The sons: Clifton H. of Covington, Merle G. of Staunton, James C. & Grant of Hot Springs and Julian at home, also Mrs. Graham Hamilton of Clover Creek; one brother, G. H. of Williamsville, one sister, Mrs. Fannie Bratton of Bolar. The sons and daughters were all present at the funeral. Mr Lockridge was a member of the Presbyterian church, having connected himself thereto when a boy in his teens at a revival service at Prospect church, held by Rev. T.W. Winfree. Mr Lockridge was afflicted with a grievous malady that that kept him down for about 15 years. During this long time he bore his suffering with marvelous patience. He was a dutiful schoolboy, an obedient son, affectionate husband, indulgent father, a true friend, and an obliging hospitable neighbor The writer visited him often in his confinement and he always insisted on a season of scripture reading. He knew and loved the Bible, unable to read himself his faithful wife did his reading and though almost helpless herself lovingly ministered to his wants by night and by day, year by year, true to the end.
