Wiederin of Grant township, died at the home of the latter last Thursday evening surrounded by affectionate relatives, whose smoothed the pathway of the good old man in his declining days. Deceased was overcome by a paralytic stroke that summer and was indelicate thereafter. Two weeks prior to his death he was confined to his bed and his decline was gradual to the end. Comforted with the sacraments of the Catholic religion, in which faith he lived, he welcomed the transformation to supernatural life with the utmost confidence. Mr. Joest was a native of Eitorff, near Cologne, Germany, from whence he came to join his children in America in 1878. He was 77 years and 11 months old at the time of his death. He was married to Miss Catherine Feld, a sister of Jos. Feld also of Grant township, in 1851. To his happy union were born the two above named, son and daughter, the mother dying in 1857. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock at SS. Peter and Paul's church, when requiem mass will be offered up for the departed soul. The pall bearers are among Mr. Joest's old friends who will tenderly lay the ashes of their associate in the bosom of consecrated earth there to remain until the trumpet of God's angel shall call the dead to life. They are: Anton Wiedemeier, John Bilmeier, Robert Odendahl, John Daiker, Jos. Wigges and M. Enrlbeck. Among relatives from abroad to be present at the funeral are Mrs. John Feld of Marshalltown, Henry Feld of Cedar Falls, John Heider of Templeton, Anton Stein and John A. Schmid of Halbur.
