The funeral was held Friday, April 24 at 2:30 at the Victoria Methodist church and was conducted by Rev. C. C. Brown. Interment was made in the Victoria cemetery beside his wife who died in 1906. John Johannes was born May 5th, 1828 in Prussia, Germany and was aged 85 years 11 months, and 17 days. He was married to Miss Fredrica Munse in the land of their birth in 1853, residing there until 1864 when they came to American and located in Cook County, Illinois where they lived until 1897, then removing to Cass county, Iowa. They lived on a farm until 1902 when they removed to Massena, which has since been the family residence. Eight children were born to them, three dying, two in infancy and Charlie in 1897. The surviving children are William of Oak Park, Illinois; August of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Simon Krauth of Creston; and Henry and Lewis of this County (Adams). Besides his children he leaves thirty-four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Creston Daily Plain Dealer April 26, 1914 John Johannes, 86 years old, died at the home of his son, Lou Johannes, south of Massena April 22. A few weeks ago he had an attack of pneumonia but rallied and was able to be up and around, although his mind was quite bad. He seemed to be in his usual condition up to within a few moments of his death. He resided alone in town until he was taken with pneumonia, when his son took him to his home to care for him. Funeral services were held today and interment was in the Victoria Cemetery. Mr. Johannes was a man to some peculiarities and a few years ago purchased a fine casket which he kept for his burial and once upon going to visit his son in Chicago moved it there. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Atlantic News-Telegraph Friday, April 24, 1914 MASSENA - John Johannes, an old time resident of Massena, died at the home of his son Lou, about 10 miles southwest of that city Wednesday afternoon. Deceased was about 86 years of age and is survived by 4 sons and a daughter. Another son died about 10 years ago and his wife died 15 years ago. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Victoria Township M.E. Church and burial was made beside his wife in the Victoria Cemetery. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - John came into the US in 1864. He was naturalized November 2, 1878 in Cook County Illinois.
