Description	:	John Johan Peter 'Christian' STALEY was the second child of eight children born to Johan 'Martin' STALEY and Charity MORETZ. Christian STALEY, age twenty one, married his nineteen year old wife Mary 'Margaret' Magdalene SMITH about 1793 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Martin STALEY and his wife Charity MORETZ, the parents of Christian Staley, had arrived in British Colonial America from Binsdorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany as immigrant children with their parents in about 1750. Read More	John Johan Peter 'Christian' STALEY was the second child of eight children born to Johan 'Martin' STALEY and Charity MORETZ. Christian STALEY, age twenty one, married his nineteen year old wife Mary 'Margaret' Magdalene SMITH about 1793 in Randolph County, North Carolina. Martin STALEY and his wife Charity MORETZ, the parents of Christian Staley, had arrived in British Colonial America from Binsdorf, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany as immigrant children with their parents in about 1750. Most likely they immigrated with other German family members at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The original German spelling of the Americanized name STALEY was STAEHLI. It is believed their ancestors had migrated from Switzerland into the Rhine River Valley between France and Germany then into England before embarking on the long sailing trip to America most likely from Plymouth, England. Apparently the parents of Christian STALEY moved from Philadelphia into Lebanon County, Lancaster County, York County, Pennsylvania over a period of approximately 14 years. By about 1764 they had migrated down the Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia through the Shenandoah Valley into central Piedmont North Carolina. The parents settled in the northeastern section of Colonial Orange (now Randolph) County, North Carolina where numerous other German immigrates had gathered. They all attended the now disbanded Richland Lutheran Church north East of Liberty, Randolph County, North Carolina. There is a very large cemetery remaining at the church site containing many different German immigrant surnames and their descendants. Many graves are marked and readable while many others are unmarked burial plots with field stones or faded soapstone tombstones. Both Christian STALEY and Margaret SMITH were born in colonial Guilford (now Randolph) County, North Carolina in 1772 and 1774 near Liberty. Christian STALEY and Margaret SMITH were parents to at least twelve Children: 1. John William STALEY, b. 1794 NC, d. 1870 NC 2. Sarah STALEY, b. 1795 NC, d. 1848 NC 3.
