Read More	Atlantic News Telegraph October 3, 1940 Page 3 FORMER MASSENAN DIES IN OREGON Massena, Ia., Oct. 3 - (Special) Word has been received here of the death Saturday of John Rae, 65, former local man, at Portland, Oregon, after being in failing health for several years. Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Rae was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rae and was born in Scotland. He came to the United States with his parents when a child, the family locating on a farm in Victoria township. He began teaching in rural schools when he was 18 years old, later graduating from Drake university. He served as superintendent of schools at Keswick and was married there to Miss Olga Cross. The family moved to Idaho 30 years ago and at the close of the World war, Mrs. Rae joined the Idaho Educational Reconstruction unit and was stationed in France for several months. Upon his return to this country, the family located at Portland, residing there since. Mr. Rae was prominent in church and Masonic organizations and a member of the Shriners. Surviving are the widow, three daughters; three brothers, William Rae of Dindum, Minnesota, George Rae of Mitchell, South Dakota, and Thomas Rae of Des Moines; and four sisters, Robena Rae of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Nell Lukens of Odell, Illinois, Mrs. Jessie Oldfield of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Johnston of Massena.
