Description	:	John "Jack" Smith - Age 55 John "Jack" Joseph Smith, son of Gene and Marian (Raymond) Smith, was born on December 18, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was one of twelve children and shared a special bond with his twin brother Patrick. Read More	John "Jack" Smith - Age 55 John "Jack" Joseph Smith, son of Gene and Marian (Raymond) Smith, was born on December 18, 1952 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was one of twelve children and shared a special bond with his twin brother Patrick. Jack was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa, and attended grade school at St. Mary’s Catholic Schools in Portsmouth. He graduated from Harlan Community High School with the class of 1971. After school, Jack began working in construction and was employed with Harlan Builders for several years building poll barns. He eventually started his own company, Town and Country Buildings, and built poll barns throughout Southwest Iowa. When Jack wasn’t busy working, he could be found on the golf course. He was an avid golfer and participated in many tournaments. On July 5, 2008, Jack was united in marriage to Pam Lockwood on an acreage outside of Harlan. Jack died on Monday, September 22, 2008, at Myrtue Medical Center having attained the age of fifty-five years, nine months, and four days. He is preceded in death by his father, and his twin brother Patrick. He is survived by his wife Pam of Harlan, Iowa; his children: Angie and her husband Dave Monson of Harlan and Brad Smith and his wife Kim of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Michael, Johnathan, Alex, Ava Rose, and Avril; his mother, Marian Smith of Avoca, Iowa; his siblings: Jennifer and her husband Rick King of Kansas City, Missouri; Denny Smith of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Nan and her husband Larry Benscoter of Nebraska City, Nebraska; Chris Smith and his wife Gay of Waterloo, Nebraska; Tim Smith of Yakima, Washington; Gail and her husband Hashem Hashemi-Toroghi of Ames, Iowa; Jay Smith of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; Geri and her husband Rich Marshall of Bethel Island, California; Jeannie Smith and Mary Lou and her husband Richard Gift all of Austin, Texas; nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa with Rev. Robert Hoefler celebrating and Rev. John Frost concelebrating the 11:00 AM service. Serving as honorary casket bearers were: Brad Smith, Gus Eckerman, Tim Smith, Jay Smith, Dave Monson, Chris Smith, Denny Smith, and Ron Novotny. Serving as casket bearers were: Jon Noon, Denny Kasperbauer, Paul Blair, Matt Klemme, Mick Johnston, Walter Rieck, Kyle Rock, and Jerry Lambert. Burial was held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portsmouth, Iowa.
