Description	:	John J. Schumann Jr., former president of the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, died last night after a fall in his summer home in Madison Ct. He lived in Montclair, N. J., and also had a winter home at Delray Beach, Fla. Mr, Schumann formerly was chairman of the board of the Motors Insurance Corporation and a director of the General Motors Corporation. He retired from all his posts in 1954. His first association with General Motors Acceptance Corporation was in 1919 as manager of the financial sales department. Schumann Jr., former president of the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, died last night after a fall in his summer home in Madison Ct. He lived in Montclair, N. J., and also had a winter home at Delray Beach, Fla. Mr, Schumann formerly was chairman of the board of the Motors Insurance Corporation and a director of the General Motors Corporation. He retired from all his posts in 1954. His first association with General Motors Acceptance Corporation was in 1919 as manager of the financial sales department. He was elected a vice president the next year and a director in 1921. In October, 1929, he was elected president of the corporation and chairman of the board of the General Exchange Insurance Corporation. He became a General Motors director in November, 1934. When Motors Insurance Corporation was organized in 1939, Mr. Schumann was elected chairman. He also was a director emeritus of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company of Newark. Mr. Schumann, who was bom in New York, attended City College, Cooper Union and New York University. He, began his business career with N. W. Harris & Co. in 1903. From 1917 to 1919 he was assistant executive secretary and then executive secretary of the distribution committee of the war loan organization in the Second Federal Reserve District. He was active in church and other community work both in Madison and Montclair. In Montclair he was a director emeritus and former president of Mountainside Hospital. Surviving are his widow, the former Florence Ward Ford; a daughter, Mrs. Caroline S. Mark; 3 sons, John A., Robert F. and W. Ford Schumann, 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
