Shoemaker John Joseph Shoemaker, 70, of Ottumwa Route 4 died at 12:25 a.m. today at his home following a serious illness of six months. Mr. Shoemaker was a former operator of Shoemaker Bros. Dairy for 24 years and more recently had been employed by Morrell’s for 17 years. He was the son of Joseph and Anna Fleer Shoemaker and was born Aug. 28, 1894, in Ottumwa. He had lived here all of his life. He was a World War I veteran and a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 3 and of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 114. He was married to Anna Cesar in Davenport in 1918. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Jack, Joe and Gene Shoemaker, all of Ottumwa; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Baker of Ottumwa and Mrs. Mary Ann Seastrand of Denver; three brothers, Deat and Henry Shoemaker of Ottumwa and Andrew Shoemaker of Detroit, Mich.; four sisters, Mrs. Christina Schmidt of Ottumwa, Mrs. Marie Markley of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Margaret Clark of Omaha and Mrs. Josephine Roberts of Des Moines; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church with the Rev. J.J. Collins, pastor, celebrating the Requiem Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military services at the graves will be in charge of the American Legion. Pallbearers will be Harold Blanchard, Linus Coyne, John Wagner, William Leonard, Rex Daugherty and Nick Wagner. Members of St. Patrick’s parish and friends will meet at the Traul Funeral Home Friday at 7:30 p.m. to recite the Rosary.
