Description	:	The gravestone seems to show the death date as April 4, 1913 but the obituary from the Cascade Pioneer shows John Keefe died September 2, 1913. The Pioneer also published a summary of events for 1913 in the January 1, 1914 issue. However, it only lists John Keefe dying in September, not April. The children in the obituary all match up so it's got to be the guy but why the death date is so wrong is a real mystery to me. [email protected] Cascade Pioneer, September 25, 1913, page 5, columns 4 - 5 JOHN KEEFE John Keefe, one of the early settlers of Butler township, Jackson county, died at his home in Cascade Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mr. Keefe's serious illness dated from September 2 when he suffered a partial paralytic stroke, and never recovered from the attack. For days he was unable to take nourishment, and seemed to live upon his wonderful vitality. Mr. Keefe was born near Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1832, and was therefore in his 81st year. He was a son of John and Sarah Keefe, natives of Ireland, and came with his parents to Butler township, Jackson county, when eight years old. He followed farming as a pursuit, succeeding his parents on the old homestead, and on the 25th day of June, 1866, was married to Mary Burke of Butler township, who with the following children survive him: J. J. and D. H. Keefe, of St. Paul; Mrs. Philip Grace of Garryowen; Mrs. Michael Crotty and Mayor F. J. Keefe, of Cascade. Mr. Keefe was a quiet, unostentatious citizen who enjoyed the honor and respect of all who knew him and his long life was one replete with the virtues of honest and upright living. Ten years ago, last April, Mr. Keefe and wife came to Cascade to live and spend their declining years in quiet contentment. The funeral services will be held at St. Martin's church at 9 o’clock Friday morning, after which the remains will be taken to Garryowen for burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
