Adopted dau., Ida Farley ---------- John Kalb Dead John Kalb was born in Ohio, March 27th, 1848, and died at his home south of Spirit Lake June 21st, 1913 surrounded by his wife, and adopted daughter, and a sister, Emma Kulb of Denison, Iowa. In the early fifties Kalb came with his parents to Machanicsville, Iowa and there grew to manhood. He met and married Miss Nettie Faurot September 19, 1876. Two children were born to this union, Mrs. E. J. Spice of Spruce Bluffs, Canada and H. N. Kalb of San Francisco. Mr. Kalb united with the first M. E. Church at Mechanicsville, Iowa, when a young man, always doing his duty cheerfully until so afflicted he could not. Mr. Kalb has been a great sufferer for eight years, but bore his sufferings with great fortitude, never complaining, but trusting fully in his Saviour, who doeth all thing well. Those who knew Mr. Kalb best knew him as an honest, upright man, never failing to do his duty while health permitted, to his God and fellowman. Those who are left to mourn the loss of a good man are his wife, Mrs. Nettie Kalb, a daughter, Mrs. E. J. Spice and a son, H. N. Kalb, four grandchildren and an adopted daughter, Miss Ida, his aged father, six sisters and one brother. The brother Annas Kalb resides at La Port, Iowa, Mrs. A. C. Neeks and Miss. Emma Kalb of Denison, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Rigby of Dumont, Iowa, Mrs. F. K. Ahren and Miss. May Kalb of Frederick, Okla., Mrs. A. C. Heath of Los Angeles, California are sisters. One brother, Geo. N. Kalb and his mother preceded him in death some twelve years ago. Mr. Kalb has a host of friends who will miss him greatly. The Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the M. E. Church, Rev. E. T. Gerkin in charge. Those from away in attendance were Mr. Kalb and Mr. Dwane, brother, and nephew of Mr. Kalb, from Mechanicsville, Iowa, Miss Emma Kalb, a sister from Denison, and Mrs. William Austin of Dumont, Iowa.
