Read More	John Ketelsen December 16, 1893–April 20, 1934 John Ketelsen Passed Away Last Friday He Had Been An Active And Successful Farmer In Madison Township John Ketelsen, an esteemed citizen and farmer living near Center Junction, passed away Friday morning, April 20. His death occurred at the John McDonald hospital in Monticello, where he had been taken the previous day for treatment. Mr. Ketelsen was taken ill with quinsy a week before his death. Attending physicians found it necessary to lance his neck, and embolism resulted in his brain, which caused his death. His untimely passing was a severe shock to his young widow and children, as well as to his many friends in Jones county. Mr. Ketelsen was born December 16, 1893, on the home farm near Center Junction. His parents were Carsten and Anna Margaret (Yetter) Ketelsen. His father died four years ago, and his mother thirteen years ago. His entire life was spent on the home farm near Center Junction. As a young man he attended the Pine Grove school near that town. The marriage of Mr. Ketelsen to Fredda Lang, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lang of Sand Spring, occurred September 29, 1920. To this union four children were born, John Jr., 12, Ruth Ann, 10, Donald E. 8, and Richard W. 4. In addition to his widow and children, Mr. Ketelsen is survived by four sisters and one brother, viz: Mrs. Pete Johannsen of Anamosa, Mrs. John Christiansen of Scotch Grove, Mrs. Floyd Shew of Olin, Mrs. William Prull of Martelle, and William of Monticello. A brother and sister died in infancy. Mr. Ketelsen was a most devoted husband and father. He took great interest in his family, and did what he could to see that their desires were fulfilled. He was a good neighbor, and was interested in the civic welfare of his community, having served as a director of the Center Junction Savings Bank, a member of the school board, and was connected with the Farmers' creamery and other organizations. Funeral services were held last Sunday, April 23, at the family home at 1:15 p.m. and at the Presbyterian church in Monticello at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Abram Alyea, pastor of the Presbyterian church of Center Junction officiated at the services, assisted by the Rev. William J. Grossheim of Monticello. Music was furnished by a quartet consisting of Sam Thompson, Gus Dreibelbis, and the Misses Dorothy Dreibelbis and Pauline Prahm, with Miss Marie Serbousek as accompanist. The pallbearers were S. G. Thompson, John Hinrichs, G. A. McDonald, F. L. Himebaugh, J. B. Seechusen and Will Dirks. Burial was made at Oakwood cemetery in Monticello.
