The following delayed obituary notice has just reached this office. John Klingaman was born in Stark county, Ohio, Oct. 24th, 1838. [sic] At the age of twelve years he moved with his parents to Elkhart county, Indiana, where he lived until 1861, when he enlisted in the Union army in Co. I, 88th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He served three years and was wounded at Bentonville, North Carolina, in Sherman's last battle. He was honorably discharged from the service and returned to his home in Indiana and made his home with his mother until her death. His father died during his service in the army. In 1879 he was married to Sarah Schrock and in 1882 they moved to Marshall county, Kansas, where they lived until 1899 when they moved to Garfield county, Oklahoma where he died July 27th, 1903. He was a good christian and about twelve years ago united with the M. E. church, and was a consistent member until his death. He leaves a wife, four sons, three daughters and four brothers to mourn his death. The funeral service was conducted by his pastor, Rev. E. F. Darby, and interment was at the Belton cemetery.
