Description	:	John Kooi, 94, of Sioux Center, 1A, died Friday, October 9,1992, in the Sioux Center Hospital nursing wing. The Reverend Robert Holwerda officiated at graveside services at Lebanon, IA, on Monday morning, October 12, 1992, followed by services in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church of Sioux Center, where he was a member. Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Kooi was born on May 18, 1898, in Garfield Township, Sioux County, IA, the son of Remko and Greta (Kastein) Kooi, and attended school in that area. He married Gertie Vander Lugt on February 10, 1921. They farmed in the Lebanon area, north of Ireton, IA, until retiring to Sioux Center in 1960. Mrs. Kooi died July 31, 1966 in Sioux Center. He moved into the nursing facility in 1987. Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Dreaka and Henry Van Ballegooycn of Hawarden, IA, and Grace and Cornie Harthoorn of Rock Valley, IA; four sons and their wifes, Randall and Mary of Hardwick, MN, William and Margaret, Elmer and Karen, all of Sioux Center, and Peter and Nella of Inwood, IA; two brothers, George Kooi of Sioux Center and Ellis Kooi of Rock Valley; two sisters, Bertha Vander Lugt of Hawarden and Jennie Haverhals of Sioux Center; 30 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and one greatgreat-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife; three brothers, Ben, Peter and Fred; two sisters, Gertie and Dreaka Haverhals; five grandchildren; and three infant great-grandchildren.
