He passed away at the Plaine Crest Nursing Home where he had been living since September 30, 1967. Mr. Kucera was born on May 5, 1880, on a farm in Tama County the son of John and Marie Kucera. On August 12, 1902, he was united in marriage to Anna Nekola at Vining. They became the parents of three children, Mrs. Charles Kubicek, Winona, George E., Clinton, and also Lester F., who passed away on July 14, 1967. Mrs. Kucera passed away in July, 1907. On January 19, 1910, he married the former Rosie Uridel, Toledo, and they became the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Del Naylor, Belle Plaine, Mrs. Everett Welsh, Williamsburg, and Mrs. Oscar Niebes, Fairborn Ohio. Mr. Kucera has lived in Belle Plaine since 1902 with the exception of eight years spent farming near Stewartville, Minnesota from 1914 to 1922. He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for 44 years as an air brake repairer and tester. In 1930 he transferred to Chicago but maintained his local residence. He retired from the railroad in 1946. He was a well-known musician being a baritone player for over 70 years. He played in Iowa Minnesota and Illinois. He was a charter member of the Belle Plaine Z.C.B.J. Lodge of which he received his 50 year pin in 1953. He was a charter member of the Belle Plaine Lodge, Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen of America, and at one time belonged to the I. O.O. F. Lodge. In addition to his wife and five children, he is survived by: one brother James Kucera, Laurel, Montana, and twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were held from Peffers-Halverson Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, with Rev. Alvin H. Boettcher officiating. Mrs. Grace Morek was the organist. Pallbearers were Sam Roudabush, Sid Weaver, Oscar T. Isle, Jack W. Miller, E.J. Cherveny, and Wilfred Drahos. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine . Those attending the funeral from a long distance were' Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Niebes, Fairborn, Ohio, and Mr. and Mrs. James Kucera, Laurel, Montana, and Mrs. Mildred Kubicek and her children, Winona.
