NEWCOMER, one of Washington county's aged and very highly respected citizens, at the hour of 9:15 Saturday evening at his home near Ringgold, Md.; after an illness of about one week, from a congested lung. Mr. Newcomer contracted a cold about ten days before his death and was bedfast for one week. Death came to him peacefully at the hour above given. He was born January 16, 1825, in Washington county, Md., being aged 95 years, and 8 days. He was the only son of the late Christian and Mary Lesher Newcomer of the Ringold district. Mr. Newcomer's entire life, with the exception of a few years, was spent in the vicinity in which he died. He was engaged in farming until he retired from active live. GOOD CITIZEN GONE The death of Mr. Newcomer has taken a quiet, thoughtful and most highly esteemed citizen from the community in which he lived. He was remarkable for his patience, for his excellent memory and clear mind which he retained until the last. He was a most faithful member ofthe Church of the Brethren and a long life long republican. Mr. Newcomer was one of the first subscribers to the Waynesboro Record and has been a regular subscriber ever since. In 1850 John Newcomer was married to Catherine Bayer, who died 7 years ago. Mr. Newcomer was the last of his family. He is survived by one son and one daughter: George M. Newcomer and Miss Susanna M. Newcomer, both of Washington county. Three grandchildren also are living. Funeral Tuesday morning, leaving the house at ten o'clock for Welty's church, where the services will be held. Interment in the adjoining graveyard. Friends and relatives are invited to attend without any further notice.
