Description	:	John L. 'Tobe' HANSEL was the son of Phillip HANSEL and Catherine BROWN both buried at Brown Cemetery, Colesburg, IA. John HANSEL married Mary M. BOWMAN(d/o Saml. BOWMAN and Cath. LEARN). In 1880, they were farming in Mallory Twp., Clayton Co. IA. John L. ‘Tobe' HANSEL was brought to Iowa in 1850 by his parents from Greene Co. PA. They traveled(rafted?) five weeks down the Ohio River and up the Mississippi River by steamboat to Dubuque IA where they were persuaded to travel to Colesburg IA(two cabins in 1850). John HANSEL married Mary M. BOWMAN(d/o Saml. BOWMAN and Cath. LEARN). In 1880, they were farming in Mallory Twp., Clayton Co. IA. John L. ‘Tobe' HANSEL was brought to Iowa in 1850 by his parents from Greene Co. PA. Overun with peaceful Indians they survived in the area by hunting the abundant deer and turkeys. For the next two or three years they survived on wild game and cornmeal mush. Later, Tobe was to be the first owner of a threshing machine which was hauled to his Mallory Twp. farm in Clayton Co. IA from McGregor by horses.
