Description	:	John Leak Campbell, 84, of Amherst, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Summit Health and Rehab, Lynchburg, Va. Born on Cox's Creek, May 27, 1934, he was a son of the late Plum and Viney Victoria Campbell. John had a long career as a talented, self-employed building contractor, but farming was his passion. Born on Cox's Creek, May 27, 1934, he was a son of the late Plum and Viney Victoria Campbell. John had a long career as a talented, self-employed building contractor, but farming was his passion. He was a loving and caring brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his five devoted daughters, Connie C. Deacon, Delores C. Davis (Bruce), Susan "Vickie" C. Wade, Donna C. Dodgion (Marvin), and Martha C. Johnson (Jim); his loving grandchildren, Kris, Erik, Kourtney, Brandy, Caleb, Drew, Nicole, Alex, Amanda, Lilli, and AJ; his great-grandchildren, Watsy, MaryJane, Maddie, Chloe, Brynn, Liam, Clark, Colin, Camden, Carter, Karleigh, and Kinleigh; his brothers, Plum Harvey Campbell (Shirley), and Delmas Campbell; his sisters, Corennia Tomlin, and Bettie Mitchell (Frank); uncle, Icem Lawhorne (Peggy); and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Juanita Burnley, and brothers, Woodrow, Tinsley, and Irvin Campbell. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many nurses and CNA's, including a special nurse, Stacy, at the Summit Health and Rehab. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, December 27, 2018, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home with Mary Campbell officiating. Burial to follow in Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1160 Pepsi Place, Suite 306, Charlottesville, 22901, or to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 500 Ray C Hunt Dr # 6, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
