Description	:	John "Leitz" Varsolona, 94, of Arma, died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at the Crawford County Hospital District No. 1 in Girard. He was born June 24, 1912, in Arma, to Joe and Carmella Delbono Varsolona. He was raised in Arma and attended Arma Schools. He served at CC Camps in Farlington and Red Wing, Minn. He also played minor league baseball in Minnesota. He was a retired truck driver for Menghini Budweiser Distributors in Frontenac from 1967 to 1983. He was born June 24, 1912, in Arma, to Joe and Carmella Delbono Varsolona. He was raised in Arma and attended Arma Schools. He served at CC Camps in Farlington and Red Wing, Minn. He also played minor league baseball in Minnesota. He was a retired truck driver for Menghini Budweiser Distributors in Frontenac from 1967 to 1983. He also owned and operated Arma Liquor for 25 years. He was a veteran of World war II, serving in the Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga and the Battleship Idaho. He served on the Washington Township Board of Trustees for 60 years. He married Verna Lee Parsons on Sept. 9, 1939, in Lamar, Mo. She survives of the home. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arma, a charter member of the Lon Helm Post No. 182 American Legion in Arma, and was a past commander, and a life member of the Arma Eagles Lodge No. 2014 and was past president. Additional survivors include one daughter, Judy Smerchek of Arma; one son, John L. Varsolona of Frontenac; one brother, Paul Varsalona of Independece, Mo.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mary Rada, Sue Butz, Patricia Nevells, and Rosie Petricone; and five brothers, Joe Varsalona, Carl Varsolona, Charles Varsolona, Frank Varsolona, and Sam Varsolona.
