Many beautiful floral tributes from his many friends and business associates were piled to profusion about the casket. The church was crowded to capacity by the many friends. Rev Wm Boyers, pastor of the church was in charge of the services and said many kind and sympathetic words to the family. After the church services, the impressive Masonic services were held at the cemetery. Judge Stiner of Hastings gave the address. The entire community mourns the passing of one of its best citizens, and offers condolences to the saddened family. =========================================== John Leroy Ward was born in Boone County, Illinois, February 22, 1857. He died at his home in Edgar, Nebraska, August 26, 1926 at the age of 60 years, 6 months and 4 days. Coming to this vicinity of Edgar in 1874, he has lived here ever since. He has been identified with many enterprises all tending to make this a better community. He has been honored by his neighbors with public office, and he filled the same with credit to himself and his friends. Soon after coming to Nebraska, he united with the Methodist Church in Edgar, and he maintained that membership throughout all the years from then until now. The Church record shows a strange coincidence--that Mrs. Ward united with the church, Just 40 years ago today, August 29, 1886. Mr. Ward has held various offices in the Church and has been chairman of many committees. For years he has been a member and president of the Board of Trustees, and held that office at the time of his death. He always has been interested in music, and at the time of his death was chairman of the music Committee. For years he has been a member of the choir and gave freely of his time for rehearsals and Sunday services. He once told the speaker of how thankful he was that the Church got hold of him in his early youth through his love of music, and got him into the choir and so led him to Christ and into the Church. Until weakened in body by disease he was regular and faithful in his attendance at the Sunday Church services, both morning and evening. And while compelled to be absent at times the last few months, it was his custom to read the Bible, while at home. His going was sudden and stunning to his family and the community. For some time it will seem that he has not really gone and that he must return. He leaves a place difficult to fill, in the home, the Church and the business world and in the community in general. There remained in loneliness at his departure, his wife, Laura B. Ward, two daughters, Mabel and Hazel, now Mrs. J. W.
