He was born May 23, 1910, in Mt. Claire, NE, the 2nd son of Lillian Rose (Brockway) and Lloyd J. McCaddon. His brother's name was Clifford Earl. He was born in March, 1907. John's ancestors lived in Kansas since the early 1800s and his great, great, great grandfather immigrated to America from the Isle of Man. John's father was a depot agent who worked for the Colorado and Southern Railroad and his young family traveled the mid west. John started working at an early age. He traveled by railcar to boxing matches, where he boxed professionally. He worked for the Climax Mine in Leadville, CO. He met Theresa Ann Rose and married her in the fall of 1933. Three children were born from this union; Verla in 1934 (she died in 1944), John Wilfred "Jack" in 1938 and LaVonne Ann in 1939. All three were born in Fail, CO, on the homestead of Theresa Ann's family, who settled in CO in 1893. Theresa died in 1952. John joined the military (Navy) at an early age, before his marriage in 1933. He also enlisted in the Coast Guard and was discharge in 1951. After that John joined the Merchant Marines and retired as a Master Electrician in 1971. John met and married Margaret Curtis of New Orleans, LA while his ship was in port in 1959. She was owner and operator of a boarding house in New Orleans. She died in 1996. John sailed to many countries. He was a boxer who trained under ex-heavy-weight champ Corey. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Works, the National Maritime Union, a miner's union and Masons Palos Verdes Lodge #389. Survivors are his sister, Verla, of Troy, CA, cousins Choral Stover and Clay Christenson of KS, his son John "Jack" of OK and his daughter Lavonne Waldie of FL, 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
