He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John David; a daughter, Becky; a brother, Earl Jr., and 3 sisters, Edna Overhaus, Betty Downs and Ruth Shain; John was born December 31, 1921, the son of Earl and Gertrude (Reasland) Lentz in North Liberty, Iowa. On September 4, 1948, he was united in marriage to Carmeletta "Connie" Covington. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946 with the 101st Infantry, as a PFC and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was employed at LeFebure Corporation for 33 years. John was a member of VFW Post 788 of Cedar Rapids, American Legion Marion Post 298, 40/8, the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and the UAW Union. John was an avid bowler and loved his time spent at the family cabin in Vinton with his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Military rites by American Legion Marion Post 298.
