Funeral services were held Monday, August 9 at the Sorden Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ann Rouse and Rev. Rick Crooks. Mr. Kirkpatrick has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Mr. Kirkpatrick was born on June 2, 1913 in Nichols, to William John and Anna (McCabe) Kirkpatrick. He graduated from Northwestern Military and Naval Academy in Lake Geneva, WI. He married Vivian Warfield on September 12, 1943 in Glen Burnie, MD. Mr. Kirkpatrick served as a Captain in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater of Operation. He was a farmer in the Johnson County area, and he also worked for Kent Feed of Lone Tree, Owens Brush of Iowa City, and retired as a mechanic from H.P. Smith in Iowa City. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a 50-yfear member of the Abner Lodge of Lone Tree. He was also a member of the Emma Beckman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Columbus City and the Lone Tree American Legion, John L. Mumm Post 457 in Lone Tree. He was a past Patron, of the former Fern Leaf Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lone Tree. He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Lexie Kirkpatrick of Arlington, IA, Barbara Lips and husband Doug of Maquoketa, Margaret Hahn and husband Wendall of Iowa City, Connie Nordstrum and husband, Fred of Polk City, and Anna Emerson and husband Hank of Camdenton, MO; two grandsons, Scott Lips and William Nordstrum; one great-granddaughter, Iylea Nordstrum; and two sisters, Mabel Hohenboken of Moline and Helen Corbett of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Woody; five brothers; and three sisters.
