A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, April 24, 2003, in St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon, with Reverend Steven Meyer celebrant. John “Jack” Clemens was born in Jamestown, ND, on September 27, 1930, the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Seelhammer) Clemens. Jack grew up in the Wimbledon area and attended St. Catherine’s grade and high school in Valley City. He then attended St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, where he graduated with a business administration and economics degree. He served with The United States Army in Korea as a military policeman with the rank of Sargent. Jack started farming in the Wimbledon area in 1955. At this time, he married Marjorie Cysewski and they have lived on the same farm for forty seven years. Jack was an involved person in his home area and Barnes County. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and served as a church trustee, The Knights Of Columbus, The LaBrash-Altringer American Legion Post 236 of Wimbledon, The Farmers Union Elevator Board of Directors, Wimbledon Community Improvement Corporation, Uxbridge Township supervisor and chairman, member and ex president of The Barnes County Township Officers Association, ASC committeeman for thirteen years, Farmers Home Administration Board of Supervisors and acting chairman, Director and past president of The North Dakota Winter Show, President of The Wimbledon Rural Fire Protection District, Past president of The Barnes County Crop Improvement Association and member of The Eagles Elks and VFW. Jack and Marjorie wintered in Bella Vista, AR, during their retirement years, returning in the summers to help on the farm. Jack loved to golf, hunt, fish, and watch all sports especially the The University of Arkansas Razorbacks basketball team, while wintering in Arkansas. After retiring, he “farmed” in his garden raising vegetables and raspberries. Jack is survived by his wife Marjorie; three sons, Michael (Pam) Clemens, Wimbledon, Chris (Janice) Clemens, Green Bay, WI, and Patrick (Mary) Clemens Odessa, MO; two daughters, Susan, Wichita, KS, and Betsy (Brian) Reiten, Jamestown; eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, one sister Mary (Nathan) Crosby, North Ft. Myers, FL. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Kathleen Dunn of Rhode Island and one brother James Clemens of California.
