John was born at Holton, KS August 31, 1914 to William and Nellie Meck Stous, He graduated from Holton High School in 1932. He attended a business college and worked for a Chevrolet dealership before WWII. During the war he was employed at the Lake City Ordinance Plant. November 22, 1941 he married Erma Snyder and they enjoyed 67 years together. They traveled widely and made many friends while square dancing. John liked gardening and he and Erma were bridge players. They belonged to the Mission Slide Club. He was a member for over 50 years of the former Meyer Blvd. United Methodist Church where he served faithfully in many ways including treasurer for 10 years. John volunteered in the Tax Preparation Program for Senior Citizens and also delivered Meals on Wheels for seven years. His working years were spent as accountant and office manager with automotive agencies. He retired from O'Neill Oldsmobile and Honda at the end of 1979. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Katharine Haag and Lucile Schultz and brother, Bill Stous. He is survived by his wife, Erma; his nephews and their wives, Bill and Marcia Haag and Steve and Sharon Stous; niece, Marian Clinkenbeard and niece and her husband, Betsy and Abe Abernathy. John had been a resident of the Care Center of Lakeview Village since March of 2006 where he always maintained his ready smile and good spirits. Memorials may be made to the Care Center in care of the Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park, Lenexa, KS 66215.
