Description	:	John Martin Fassnacht was born Feb. 20th, 1832, died, Nov. 13, 1912. He was born in the city of Wertenberg, Germany. He learned the mason's trade in the old country. He came to America at the age of 21 and worked in the eastern states, for a while. Before the time of the war, he came to Kansas, first stopping at Leavenworth. Read More	John Martin Fassnacht was born Feb. 20th, 1832, died, Nov. 13, 1912. He was born in the city of Wertenberg, Germany. He learned the mason's trade in the old country. He came to America at the age of 21 and worked in the eastern states, for a while. Before the time of the war, he came to Kansas, first stopping at Leavenworth. About that time he married a Miss Buchite. To them was born one child, which died in infancy. They moved to Muscotah, where he purchased a farm in what is now the Stony Point neighborhood but still worked at his trade part time. It was he who built the Mo. Pac. stone depot at Muscotah. He also built many bridges for the Central Branch railroad earning large money at it. Mrs. Fassnacht died two years after their marriage, of tuberculosis. At a meeting in Old Muscotah about 40 years ago, he was converted and joined the Wesleyan Methodist church. Sept. twenty-seventh 1862, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Gliem at Old Muscotah. To this union were born 12 children, 11 living. Mr. Fassnacht was a good father, loving husband and was both able and anxious to properly provide for his family. He moved to Horton 3 years ago and has lived there since. A short time past he became ill and was taken to the Horton hospital to undergo an operation. Death came Wednes. at 3:30 a.m. The funeral was held at his home to-day at 10:30 o'clock, interment in the Muscotah cemetery. All the children came except Sadie, who is in California. The children in the order of their ages are as follows: George a farmer of Harper Co. Kas.; Mary, deceased; Mrs. Rose Wallace of Elk City; Mrs. Emma Brower, wife of an Iowa minister; Jho., the depot agent at Moline, Kas.; Jake, a farmer of Blackwell, Okla.; Mrs. Sadie Williams; Fred of Valley Falls; Chas. of Longton, Kans.; and James, who still farms the old place; Miss Edith, at home; and Frank of Effingham. He is survived by his wife. Mr. Fassnacht was one of the oldest settlers in this community, in which he was always a respected and useful citizen. Brother: George Fassnacht
