Description	:	John M. Corsbie/Crosbie was born February 12, 1822, in Guilford County, North Carolina, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Hadley) Corsbie. He was the grandson of Capt. On December 15, 1842, he married Ruth Rees, the daughter of Zachariah and Mary (Davis) Reese. They had one daughter, Hannah Ann, born in 1844 and who died in 1862. His wife Ruth died on May 21, 1845, in Indiana. On April 7, 1847, at Sugar Plain Monthly Meeting, Boone County, Indiana, John married Matilda Frazer, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Otwell) Frazer. In 1857 he and his family moved from Boone County, Indiana to Marshall County, Iowa; and then after a short time to Henry County, Iowa. John and Matilda had six children: Hadley (1848-1924), Avaline (1852-1928), Lucy Jane (1855-1923), Mary (1858-1939), Havilah (1861-1888), and Murray (1866-1929). Find-a-Grave contributor Kent Myrick writes that after John’s brother Jonathan Corsbie and his wife Melissa moved to Salem, Iowa, the mail was always going to the wrong family because of the similarity of names, so John changed the spelling of his name to Crosbie and his children and descendants used the spelling Crosbie. The American Friend (dated January 13, 1916) reported the death of John M. Corsbie [sic] on November 20, 1915, at the home of his daughter in Salem, Iowa. He was nearly 94. The article continued: “He was interested in the welfare of the negro and the cause of education. For many years he was a member of the Board of Trustees of Whittier College at Salem. He held office almost continuously of overseer, elder or clerk.”
