Henry, was born June 11, 1830. and died November 17. 1914, aged 84 years, 5 month and 6 days. He was united in marriage to Charity J. Johnson July 31, 1858, and to this union four children were born ; George W. Henry, of Carmel, Mrs. Anna E. Redkey, of Hillsboro, William M. Henry, of Highland and Mrs, Allie Laforge, who preceded him to that better land about seven years ago. On October 26, 1862, in his young manhood, he marched to the front to answer his country's call, and braved the struggles and hardship of the battlefield for three years. He was a member of Company E, 7th Ohio Cavalry. He united with the Presbyterian church at Ripley, Ohio, in his early youth, but afterwards transferred his membership to the Christian Union church at Hoagland's Crossing. He was a true consistent Christian, but on account of feeble health he was deprived of attending the church services for several years. He never lost his interest in the church's welfare, and was frequently found reading his bible and studying his word. He was fully prepared to enter into the Heavenly world. Uncle John, as he was called by his neighbors and friends, has won the respect and confidence of his neighbors and acquaintances by his honesty and integrity. He was a man who lived a quiet but useful life, and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbor. No one ever came to him for a favor but what it was granted if it was within his power. He leaves a wife, three children, eight grand children five great grandchildren, four sisters and many sorrowing friends to mourn the loss of a dear one. The bugle called him and taps have been sounded. The hearts in this home are saddened by the loss of their kind, affectionate husband, father,brother and grandfather. The bright smile that always welcomed us is now with the angels beckoning us to come. He bore his sufferings with much patience; he never murmured nor complained. All that loving care and attention could give was naught. Vain were the pleadings, the hopes, the tears of the anxious hearts of those who watched him drifting slowly into the shadows, and after a few days of patient suffering his sweet eyes closed on earth. The tired heart is still and beyond the sunset he has seen the dawning. It is hard to give him up and we cannot understand why one so near and dear should be taken away from us, "but God knows best."
