Description	:	John Michael "Mike" Hofer was born to John and Ellen (Smith) Hofer in their farm house three miles south and east of Athboy, SD, on a cold, winter night on March 30, 1937. John and Ellen had two children both born in the farm house--Mike and a daughter, Betty Ann. He passed away February 12, 2015, in Arizona City, AZ. John and Ellen had two children both born in the farm house--Mike and a daughter, Betty Ann. He passed away February 12, 2015, in Arizona City, AZ. Mike attended rural schools in the community, and in 1951, he entered Northwestern Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, SD. In August of 1955, he enlisted in the US Air Force. In September of 1957, Mike married high school sweetheart, Caroline Evelyn Kahler of Colome, SD. They were married and moved to Albuquerque, NM, so Mike could finish his last year of Air Force duty. It was in New Mexico that their first son, Michael Troy Hofer, was born. They moved back to South Dakota where their son, Mark Allen Hofer, was born in Aberdeen in 1965. The family moved to Everett, WA, where Mike worked for Teamsters 227 in the baking industry for 34 years. He and Caroline moved to Arizona in 1996. In 2000, Caroline passed away after a long battle with COPD. Caroline and Mike were married 43 years. In 2002, Mike married Andrea Berry, and lived in Arizona City, and Casa Grande, AZ. Mike had lots of hobbies. He loved to fish and anything to do with guns and cars. He also loved golf and cooking. He raced 1/4 mile drag stock cars and owned enough cars for three life times. He will be buried in Lemmon, SD, at the family plot. Mike is survived by his wife, Andrea Hofer of Casea Grande, AZ; his two sons, Michael and wife, Heather, and Mark Hofer of Seattle, WA; his sister, Betty Hofer of Nashville, TN, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and first wife, Caroline.
