| Description | : | John Miller Sanford was born in 1803 , the same year that Ohio became a state. In the mid 1800's John settled in Highland Twp, Defiance Co., Defiance, Ohio, opened the Sanford Inn and stayed there for the rest of his life. The original structure that was the Sanford Inn, although remodeled many times, still exists today. John M Sanford is interred in a private, family cemetery behind the old Sanford Inn south of Defiance, Ohio off of State Rt 15.
