He was born on January 15, 1929 in Fort Madison, IA to John T. & Tempy B. Hawkins Genck. He married Dolores H. Shepperd on April 30, 1949 in Fort Madison, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of Izaak Walton, the Model T of America Club & ILIAMO Model T Ford Club. He enjoyed collecting junk, antiques and tinkering. John is survived by: his wife: Dolores Genck of Donnellson, IA; 1-daughter: Karen (Ben) Anderson of Donnellson, IA; 1-son: Stephen (Jo) Genck of Donnellson, IA; 6-grandchildren; 18-great grandchildren; 4-great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 5-brothers & 2-sisters. Per his wishes, his body has been cremated by King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2, 2013 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 with Rev. Dean Graber officiating at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial has been established for Make-A-Wish Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
