Description	:	John M. "Jack" Edleman, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, April 25, 2016, at Unity Point Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. John Milton Edleman was born on December 14, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, to Milton A. and Esther M. (Cook) Edleman. Read More	John M. "Jack" Edleman, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, April 25, 2016, at Unity Point Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. John Milton Edleman was born on December 14, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, to Milton A. and Esther M. (Cook) Edleman. He grew up in Lost Nation attending Elementary school until his parents moved to Delmar where he graduated from Delmar High School in 1949. He then spent two years attending the University of Iowa, and a short time working at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa prior to enlisting in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home where he would meet his future wife, Ann C. Wilcox. They were married on August 25, 1957 in Maquoketa, Iowa. Shortly after Jack and Ann were married Jack accepted a job as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration located at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, Illinois. He worked there for six years returning home to Maquoketa where he owned and operated a Conoco tank wagon, service and gas station for five years. He then was recruited back by the FAA and moved to Rockford, Illinois as an Air Traffic Controller for 16 years. In 1984 he became the Chief Controller with the Dubuque Regional Airport, retiring in 1986. In retirement, Jack and Ann operated Write Away Supply Company, a school supply and vending company for 16 years. Jack was always generous with his time, talent and resources. He was an active member of NARFE where he had served as the Iowa Federation 2nd Vice President and the Dubuque Chapter #436 past President and current Treasurer. He was a member of the Dubuque American Legion Post #6, and former Maquoketa Lions club member. He had been a loyal supporter of the Friends of Smithtown Church and Smithtown Cemetery Association, and as a 15 year cancer survivor he was always a strong advocate of the American Cancer Society. As a dedicated veteran he was honored to go on the 7th Honor Flight originating from Dubuque. Jack was a dedicated father and husband. He was an avid Cubs fan and a charter member of the "Die Hard Cubs Fan Club". Additionally, he was an avid Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bulls and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He was a voracious daily newspaper reader and was always interested in NASA. Those left to honor Jack's memory include his wife Ann C. Edleman of Dubuque, IA; sons William C. Edleman, MSW, of Rockford, IL, and Robert J. (Diana) Edleman, MD, Psychiatrist, of Dix Hills, Long Island, NY; a brother David C. (Sharon) Edleman of Kewanee, IL; and 5 grandchildren, George Ceraulo, Cecile Edleman, Alexandria Edleman, Celestina Edleman and Zane Edleman. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 10 A.M., Friday, April 29, 2016 from the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Smithtown Cemetery, rural Lost Nation, Iowa. "The family would like to especially thank Dr. Hermann and nurses at Dubuque Internal Medicine Oncology; also Hospice of Dubuque, and staff at Hawkeye Care Center for compassionate care.
