Popple, in his 82d year. Newport Mercury (Newport, RI) Sat. Aug 7, 1915, Page 1 JOHN M. POPPLE Mr. John M. Popple died very suddenly at his home on Tilley Avenue Tuesday morning, while seated at the breakfast table. Mr. Popple was a son of the late George Popple, a landscape gardener and was born in Newport eithty-one ago. He was a brother of the late George H. Popple and was for a time engaged with him in the shoe business. He was a carpenter by trade and was for a time a partner of the late Nathan Barker, a well known contractor and builder. He was an active member and a regular attendant at the First Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He is survived by a widow, who was a daughter of the late Abraham H. Tilley; also by one son by his first wife - Mr. George W. Popple. ________ Mr. Popple was first married to Harriet Amelia Edgar on Dec 23, 1858. She was the daughter of George & Mercy Edgar. They had two sons, and she died shortly after giving birth to her second son George in May 1865. Mr. Popple then married his second wife in 1872. His son Henry, also by his first wife, died in 1895.
